Worcester Park Reserves 2-3 FTFC Reserves

Dean Nelson's side bounced back well from their top of the table clash against Mole Valley last week with a win that should further their credentials to be challenging for the Combined Counties Reserve Division this season. Worcester Park had the better of the opening exchanges with the central midfield three of Duff, Peters and Piper not being able to stamp their authority on the match which was being played with constant rain throughout the match. It was the home side who opened the scoring after the Worcester midfield broke well and the striker capitalised on a slip by returning defender Rob Webb to lob the keep er and go 1-0 up. The unlikely equaliser for Farnham came in the shape of centre-half Pete Grinham who despite not scoring for nearly four seasons, rose well to head a Chris Barnes long throw, high over the home goalkeeper and into the net just beofre half-time. After weathering a lot of pressure from the home side in the opening half, Farnham knew they could go on and win the match and get back on the winning trail after two league matches without victory. Leading frontman Graham Purser, span well and struck his shot early across the home goalkeeper to put Farnham back into the lead on 65 minutes but the lead was only short lived. Despite dealing well with the aerial threat that Worcester Park had threw at Farnham, it was a second phase of play that caught the away side napping and the equaliser was lashed home on 70 minutes to the frustration of the away side who felt in control of the match. Farnham pressed and with 80 minutes on the clock, John Piper found himself clear on in goal after good work down the Farnham left and his sweetly struck half volley beat the keeper and nestled into the net. Farnham managed to hold onto victory and a vital three points against the former champions.
